Dry Run

Wise leaders, our Chuck and Kathy. Rather than have us land in the PI to see how we all function as a group, we had a practice work session, so to speak. Of course, we were REALLY working…not practicing! Anyway, this way, not only would we benefit by being able to work together before we leave, some worthy organization would (hopefully!) benefit from our help.

So, on Dec. 2 the team gathered at the WEC headquarters in Fort Washington to provide some much needed assistance installing replacement windows. For more information about WEC, check out the link on this page. They are amazing people there. I can’t describe how I felt working with them. We were all strangers, but yet brothers and sisters in Christ. I felt immediately at home…with family. They could not have been more gracious hosts. And Lee…those chocolate cookies were something else!

Anyway, what a magnificent building they have…they call it “the castle” and they aren’t kidding! Come to find out that it was the Drexel family SUMMER home! Yep, that’s how the “other half” lived alright. Incredible rooms…the stonework, the woodwork, twenty-some fireplaces! And they needed a bunch of windows replaced. Here’s Dan giving Scott and Chuck a preview of what needed to be done.

Nancy and I volunteered to drag all those vinyl windows from the ground floor to the second floor where the work was being done. Hey, Dan D., we need to talk about what constitutes “not heavy!”

The guys did the actual installation work, Kathy did some of the prep work (and helped out wherever else needed) and Kim and Marilyn did all the finishing. And here they are, showing off their talents…

And what’s going on here…Kim and Marilyn giving directions or taking notes??!!

We happen to have some very talented folks on our team. Chuck and Scott doing their magic...

And we found out that we all had a GREAT time working together. WARNING….WARNING….WARNING…we have a practical joker among us…yes, that’s the other Nancy with a mouse (a headless one at that!!).

After a long, productive day filled with many, many blessings and lots of fun we were all too pooped to go out to eat together afterward. As for me...a long hot bath and slipping into my jammies was just what I needed. I have a feeling I won't have that luxury in the PI!

Oh, before you go, scroll down and check out the pictures I added of our dinner at the Filipino restaurant in Philly!
